Emerging Tech – March 6, 2018

The sixth Women Startup Challenge was held at Google in New York City and showcased 10 of the best early-stage, women-led startups focused on Agriculture Tech, Augmented Reality, Biotech, Health Tech, Energy, IoT, Robotics, Space, Transportation, and/or Virtual Reality. The $50,000 top prize was awarded to Timeless, an app developed by 14-year-old Emma Yang to help people with Alzheimer’s remember events, stay connected and engaged, and recognize people through artificial intelligence-based facial recognition technology.

The 10 startups were chosen from close to 200 online applications. The event was co-produced by Women Who Tech and Craig Newmark of craigslist and the Craig Newmark Philanthropic Fund.

Europe – May 3, 2017

The fifth Women Startup Challenge showcased 10 amazing, women-led tech startups at a pitch competition held at City Hall in London. The €50,000 top prize was awarded to Alexandra Grigore of Simprints, a startup that aims to become the first identity provider for the 1.5 billion people who do not have formal IDs.

The 10 startups were chosen from close to 200 online applications. The event was co-produced by Women Who Tech and Craig Newmark of craigslist and the Craig Newmark Philanthropic Fund.

VR and AI – February 15, 2017

Didimo Veronica OrvalhoThe fourth Women Startup Challenge, in partnership with Craig Newmark of craigslist, the Craig Newmark Foundation, and sponsored in part by Fred and Joanne Wilson, showcased and funded innovative, women-led startups focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Artificial Reality (AR), and Virtual Reality (VR) that are solving problems for people, businesses, and the planet.

The 10 best AI, AR, and VR women-led startup applicants from across the U.S. were selected to pitch their startup on stage in front of a distinguished judging panel of investors and hundreds of attendees at Google in New York City on February 15, 2017. Prizes included $50,000 in cash and startup friendly services.

San Francisco, CA – June 14, 2016

Kiah Williams, founder of SIRUM, took home the $50,000 grand prize for her startup, which matches unused, unexpired medicine with people in need.

New York, NY – November 9, 2015

winners3The second pitch competition, held November 9, 2015 at Microsoft in New York City, brought 10 startups before a panel of judges that included Investor Joanne Wilson and Susan Lyne of BBG Ventures. Dr. Sabine Seymour, founder of Softspot by Moonlab, took home the grand prize for her seamless sensor system for clothing.

Maci Peterson of On Second Thought Won the Women Startup Challenge Pitch CompetitionOn June 30, 2015, Women Who Tech held the first-ever Women Startup Challenge Pitch Competition at General Assembly/1776 in Washington, D.C.

Twelve finalists from the Women Startup Challenge crowdfunding campaign presented their innovative and disruptive ventures to a panel of investors, who selected three winners.

The crowdfunding campaign on Crowdrise raised over $315,000 for women ventures. An additional $50,000 was awarded to first place winner On Second Thought, co-founded by Maci Peterson!
